What inspired you to write a script rather than a novel or short story?
I write scripts because that’s where the story comes alive – through visuals, timing, and the messy rhythm of human interaction. My work is character-driven comedy that finds truth before punchlines. It’s meant to be seen and heard, not just read on the page.

Was there a specific film, TV show, or personal moment that first made you say, “I want to write like that”?
I can’t point to one specific film or show, but I'm drawn to stories that explore the gap between what we think we want and what we actually need – and I use humor to expose that tension.

What’s your writing routine like? Do you follow a strict schedule, or are you more intuitive about when and how you write?
I write in focused two-to-three-hour blocks – usually morning and evening, with a strict "no internet" policy during these sessions. Between projects, I free-write for thirty minutes daily to stay sharp.

When you're starting a new script, how do you shape your ideas? Do you use outlines, beat sheets, or dive right into scenes? What inspires your scripts? Characters? Plot? Theme? Action?
I don’t start pages until the structure is locked – usually a beat sheet first, sometimes index cards. I’m most often inspired by theme and character: that friction between what people want, what they fear, and what they can’t admit out loud.

How do you handle writer’s block or those inevitable moments of self-doubt?
I pivot to something completely different, often in another format. Long walks help – most breakthroughs happen when I stop trying to force them. I also keep a "fragments" file: stray ideas, lines, half-scenes. Sometimes one small piece becomes the spark.

What tools—software, methods, rituals—do you consider essential to your writing workflow?
Nothing fancy: notes app, pen and paper. Then Final Draft for the actual script.

Do you write with production realities in mind, or do you let the creative vision lead first and adjust later?
I’m also a director – usually working with Canadian budgets – so production realities are always in the back of my mind. But I try not to let practicality kill ambition too early. Sometimes you have to swing for the fences first, then figure out how to shoot it.

When a scene isn’t working, what’s your go-to strategy for fixing it? Rewrite, workshop, walk away—or something else?
I diagnose the real problem underneath the problem – what’s missing structurally or emotionally that’s preventing the scene from doing its job. Once I know what the scene needs to accomplish, the rewrite usually becomes clear.

How many scripts have you completed? How many have you started and not completed (we all have those)...and why are they still unfinished?
I’ve written about a dozen – shorts, series, features. But "finished"; is relative. I’m never done until I’m shooting. Then there are rewrites on set, and more drafts in the edit. In my experience, scripts don’t get finished – they get released.

Have you earned recognition in this or other competitions? What’s your strategy when submitting your scripts, and how has contest feedback shaped your work?
I target contests that offer meaningful feedback or industry exposure.  I’ve been fortunate to win several screenwriting competitions, including Cannes Film Awards, Filmmatic, Big Apple, UK Film Festival, European Short Awards, New York Screenwriting Awards (3x), and the Wiki Screenplay Contest (3x). Contest feedback has helped me sharpen structure, clarify
intent, and cut anything that isn’t pulling its weight.

Have you done anything at this point to promote yourself or your writing (besides entering online contests)? If so, how would you gauge the effectiveness of those efforts?
When I made the finals of a Stage 32 contest, manager Nicholas Bogner at Affirmative Entertainment reached out – which led to representation in LA.

Have you pitched to producers or taken meetings yet? What have those experiences taught you about the business side of screenwriting?
Yes. You learn quickly that it’s called “show business” for a reason – the creative matters, but the relationships, timing, and packaging matter too. A great script opens the door, but the conversation is about how it lives in the marketplace.

What do you see as your greatest strengths as a writer? Your greatest weaknesses?
Working as a director has given me a strong sense of how a script translates to the screen – clarity, pacing, and economy are key. My weakness? I’m an introvert. I’d rather be rewriting than networking.

How do you balance your writing with your “day job”?
Directing – and now writing – is my day job. The balance is about protecting creative time and treating writing like work, not a hobby you squeeze in when life allows.

What message or emotional response do you hope audiences walk away with after experiencing your work?
I’m fascinated by how technology reshapes human connection – for better and worse. I gravitate toward dark comedies that blend heart with discomfort, especially when they explore emotional disconnection in an over-connected world.
