How did you discover The Santa Barbara International Screenplay Awards and how did you decide to enter this contest among all the others?
I discovered this contest through Filmfreeway, and I further looked into the contest and it looked to be reputable, and I would receive useful feedback from professional screenwriters.
 
Where do you live (City, State, or Country)?
I live in Tulsa, OK, USA
 
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? What inspires your overall journey into screenwriting?
I was inspired to write Death Do Us Part while listening to one of my favorite bands. I have always loved creating stories, and the best medium to do so (in my opinion) is film
 
How do you decide which stories to tell, and what draws you to these particular themes?
Trust is a common theme that shows up in my works. Most of my ideas start as moral dilemmas, and how the choice of trust the character makes affects their lives.
 
What is your typical writing routine? How do you structure your workday to stay productive?
I usually start by getting myself into the scene; e.g. reviewing past scenes, going over the character’s mental state, reading the scene cards I prepared. Then I act it out, sometimes recording myself so I don’t lose the momentum, and type out what is happening.
 
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN?
With this particular project, I had little to no outline. It took me about two to three months to get a draft I was happy with. Before, and during, my writing, I had envisioned the story so much so that it had become sort of a memory.
 
How do you handle writer's block or moments of doubt (we all have them) during your creative process?
I take a break and do some other activity that restarts my mind in a sense
 
What tools or software do you find essential to your workflow as a screenwriter?
Music that fits the vibe of the story/scene helps me tremendously to stay locked in.
 
How do you approach competition entries, and what have you learned from participating in these contests?
As a new screenwriter, submitting to these contest have given me insight as to where I “rank” amongst other screenwriters, and they offer great criticism.
 
Can you share a specific challenge you've faced in your screenwriting and how you overcame it?

Where do you see yourself in five years as a screenwriter?
I see myself having finished and sold at least one feature and in the process of another one
 
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer?
My ultimate ambition is to release the stories trapped in my mind into the world, and I hope there to be others that become enraptured in them as I have.
 
The film and television industry is constantly evolving. How do you see the role of screenwriters changing, especially with the rise of streaming platforms and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence? 
With so many streaming platforms, there is a need for new and fresh content that attracts people to your platform, which opens up jobs for screenwriters. AI created stories will never reach a human level because they lack experience, and can never gain it.
 
Which film or television writers inspire you? Why?
William Goldman is a legend, and his book on screenwriting inspired me and taught me so much.
 
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show?
It’s very hard to pick, but I would have to say dead poets society
 
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have?
Buy the entry with the pages of feedback from other writers is very helpful, because not only do you see where your work ranked in the competition, but you also get valuable feedback in how to improve and why it scored what it did.

I am working on a fun action/adventure feature. I’m a new screenwriter so I have no link that showcases my projects.
