ATTILA KOROSI

Picture
Where do you live (City, State, or Country)?
Santa Monica, California.

Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel?
The story is partially based on my journey of growing up in a war and then through athletics earning my way to the United States. I wanted to create an inspiring story that encourages people to find power within themselves. I wrote in a screenplay format because I want to turn it into a movie. That is the main goal.

How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN?
It took three to four months to get to the second draft (which is the version I submitted). I just start with a FADE IN and then keep writing and revising, every day. When I directed my latest feature film, I kept revising the screenplay until the day of filming. I’m a big believer in the power of revision.

What is your ultimate ambition as a writer?
To win an Oscar and be recognized as one of the most influential writers of my generation.

Which film or television writers inspire you? Why?
I would say John Milius, James Cameron, Shane Black and Attila Korosi ;)
Their writing is an engaging page turner and I like their tendency to wink at the reader.

What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show?
The movie that I could rewatch without blinking is Lawrence of Arabia.

What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have?
Be honest with yourself and listen to criticism with an open mind + revise, revise, revise. Places like the SANTA BARBARA INTERNATIONAL WRITING AWARDS is a great way to get detailed analysis from industry professionals, which is crucial for writers at any level.

What else are you working on that the world needs to know about?
Besides revising HEART OF GOLD, I’m revising LILY an action/horror (will submit to SBISA very soon) and SADO an action drama.  The feature film, MAZE OF FATE, that I wrote and directed, will be released in the first quarter of 2023.
